Frequently Asked Questions

What makes your Thai traditional wear authentic?

Our garments are sourced from Northern Thailand and made to authentic standards suitable for traditional Thai cultural events. We carefully curate our collection to ensure each piece is appropriate for weddings, temple visits, festivals, and family celebrations.

When you order from us, you’re getting genuine Thai attire – not costume pieces designed for Halloween or cheap imitations. These are real garments that you can confidently wear to cultural events where authenticity matters.

Are items ready to ship or made-to-order?

Everything in our collection is ready to ship from our warehouse in Northern Thailand. We don’t do made-to-order (though we may offer some premium pieces in the future), which means you’ll receive your order much faster. Most orders ship within 1-2 business days.

How do you ensure quality?

Before any garment leaves our warehouse, we inspect it carefully. We check the fabric quality, examine the stitching and construction, verify that embellishments are secure, and confirm the overall condition meets our standards. We only ship items we’d be happy to wear ourselves to important cultural events.

Which sizes do you offer?

We offer a range of sizes designed to fit Western body proportions while keeping traditional Thai aesthetics. Our sizing is created with our Thai-American customers in mind – we know that bodies come in different shapes, and traditional Thai garments sometimes fit differently than Western clothing.

Each product page includes detailed measurements and sizing information specific to that style, so you can find the right fit.

How do I know which size to order?

The best approach is to check the specific product page for the item you’re interested in. Each one includes detailed measurements for bust, waist, hips, and length, along with notes about how that particular style fits.

Here’s what we recommend: take your measurements carefully (or have someone help you), then compare them to the size chart on the product page. Pay attention to the fit notes too – some styles are meant to be more fitted while others have a relaxed, flowing drape. Different Thai styles really do fit differently.

If you’re between sizes or unsure, email us at support@thaitraditionalwear.com with your measurements. We’re happy to personally recommend the best size for your body type and the specific garment you’re considering.

Do different Thai dress styles fit differently?

Yes, definitely. Each traditional Thai style has its own distinct silhouette and fit characteristics.

Thai Chakri tends to have a fitted bodice with structured shoulders. Thai Ruean Ton offers modest coverage with a more relaxed fit – it’s popular for temple visits for this reason. Thai Boromphiman has a tailored look with a defined waist, giving it an elegant formality. Thai Chakkraphat features flowing, comfortable drape that’s more forgiving on different body types.

This is why we emphasize checking each product’s specific sizing guide rather than assuming your size is consistent across all styles. If you want to learn more about the different styles and when to wear them, check out our Complete Guide to Thai Dress Styles.

How do I care for Thai silk garments?

Thai silk is a beautiful natural fiber, but it does need gentle care to stay looking its best. Here’s what we recommend:

The safest method is hand washing in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent – nothing harsh and definitely no bleach. Gently swish the garment around without wringing or twisting the fabric. When you’re done, roll it in a clean towel to remove excess water, then hang it to air dry away from direct sunlight.

If you prefer, professional dry cleaning works well for Thai silk, especially for pieces with heavy embellishment or beading. Just let your cleaner know it’s delicate silk.

Some customers ask about machine washing, and while we don’t really recommend it, if you must, use the delicate cycle with cold water and put the garment in a mesh laundry bag. Wash it separately from other items to prevent snagging.

Whatever you do, never use hot water (it can damage the silk fibers), never put Thai silk in the dryer, and be careful with ironing – if you need to iron, use low heat with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.

How do I place an order?

Ordering is simple. Browse our collection and click on anything that catches your eye. Choose your size from the dropdown menu, add it to your cart, and either keep shopping or head to checkout when you’re ready.

At checkout, you’ll enter your shipping address – double-check this for accuracy since international shipping mistakes are hard to fix once the package is on its way. Choose your payment method, enter your payment details, and complete your purchase. You’ll get an order confirmation email right away, and a shipping confirmation with tracking information once your order goes out.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover), plus PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All transactions are processed securely with encrypted payment processing, so your financial information is protected.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, but only if we haven’t shipped it yet. Since we typically ship orders within 1-2 business days, you need to contact us quickly.

Email support@thaitraditionalwear.com right away with your order number and the email address you used when ordering. If we can catch it before it ships, we’ll cancel it for you. If it’s already on its way, you’ll need to wait until it arrives and then follow our standard return process.

I entered the wrong shipping address. What should I do?

Contact us immediately at support@thaitraditionalwear.com with your order number and the correct shipping address. We can update it if we catch it before your order ships, but that window is small since we process orders quickly. The sooner you reach out, the better chance we have of fixing it.

Why didn’t I receive an order confirmation email?

If you completed checkout but didn’t get a confirmation email, first check your spam or junk folder – legitimate emails sometimes end up there. Also verify that you entered the correct email address at checkout, and make sure your inbox isn’t full.

If you still can’t find it, email us at support@thaitraditionalwear.com with your name, the email address you used (or meant to use), and the approximate time you placed your order. We’ll look up your order and resend the confirmation.

Where do you ship to?

We ship worldwide from our warehouse in Northern Thailand. Whether you’re in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, or anywhere else, we can get authentic Thai traditional wear to you.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on all orders worldwide, with no minimum purchase required. Whether you’re ordering one item or ten, shipping is always on us.

How long does shipping take?

International shipping from Thailand typically takes 10-14 days via Thailand Post International Service. Most packages arrive right on schedule, though occasionally delays happen due to customs processing or local postal service backlogs – things that are unfortunately out of our control.

Do you provide tracking numbers?

Absolutely. Every order is fully trackable from our warehouse to your door. Once your order ships, you’ll receive an email with your tracking number and a link to your dedicated tracking page. You can check it anytime to see exactly where your package is in its journey – from dispatch through international transit and customs clearance to final delivery.

My package hasn’t arrived yet. What should I do?

If it’s been more than 14 days since your order shipped, first check your tracking page to see the current status. Sometimes packages sit in customs for a few extra days, or there might be a local postal delay.

If tracking isn’t showing much information or you’re concerned about where your package is, email us at support@thaitraditionalwear.com with your order number. We’ll look into what’s happening and help you get it resolved.

I’m not sure which Thai dress style is appropriate for my occasion. Can you help?

We’d love to help! Different occasions call for different levels of formality and specific styles.

For Thai weddings, Thai Chakri or Thai Boromphiman are usually appropriate, depending on the formality of the event. For temple visits, Thai Ruean Ton is a great choice because of its modest coverage. For cultural festivals and celebrations, Thai Chakkraphat or regional styles work beautifully.

If you want to dive deeper into which styles are appropriate for different occasions, check out our guides:

You can also email us at support@thaitraditionalwear.com with details about your event – the occasion, dress code if specified, and your relationship to the hosts – and we’ll recommend the most appropriate option for you.

What should my child wear to a Thai cultural event?

We offer children’s Thai traditional wear for cultural events, weddings, and family celebrations. Kids’ traditional clothing follows similar style guidelines as adult wear – the formality should match the occasion.

For detailed guidance on dressing children in Thai attire, including sizing considerations and what’s appropriate for different age groups, see our Children’s Wear Complete Parents Guide.

What do Thai men wear to traditional events?

Traditional Thai menswear includes several styles appropriate for different occasions, from formal ceremonies to casual cultural gatherings. Men’s attire has its own specific guidelines and traditional elements.

For a comprehensive overview of Thai men’s traditional clothing options, check out our Thai Traditional Clothing for Men Guide.

What should I wear to Songkran?

Songkran is Thailand’s famous water festival celebrating the Thai New Year, so you’ll want something comfortable that can get wet! Traditional attire for Songkran is different from formal events like weddings.

See our Songkran Fashion Guide for specific recommendations on what to wear and what to avoid during this fun, splashy celebration.

I’m not Thai. Is it appropriate for me to wear Thai traditional clothing?

Yes, when worn respectfully and for appropriate occasions. Many non-Thai individuals wear traditional Thai attire for events like:

  • Thai weddings where they’re guests or marrying into a Thai family
  • Thai cultural celebrations and festivals
  • Temple visits or religious ceremonies
  • Family events with Thai relatives

What matters most is understanding the cultural significance, wearing appropriate styles for the occasion, and approaching it with genuine respect rather than as a costume. We’re happy to guide you toward culturally appropriate choices for your specific situation – just reach out if you’d like input.
